New Encaustic Workshops

Something I've been wanting to do for a long time now is offer encaustic painting workshops (with beeswax and pigment) to individuals and small groups of 2-3 at my home studio in Lawrencetown. The interest over the past couple years has really been building, with many people asking me about lessons every weekend at the Halifax Seaport Market. I am thrilled to share that I have finally open for workshops!
No prior painting or creative experience is necessary. You just need 2 hands, a sense of humour, and a willingness to try something new. Oh, and not have dog allergies (I have a 19-year old girl who has long since given up kissing strangers, I promise).

Workshops will run from 10am-4pm, and include a delicious homemade (gluten-free and vegan optional) lunch and refreshments, even wine, espresso or cappuccino for a little indulgence.

Cost is $120 per person + $30 for materials. You'll each have fun making 1-3 finished pieces for your home or for gifting. Feel free to bring extra materials to collage with if you like (such as photos, fabrics, shells, small found objects, mementos, etc.), as well as a smock or apron. For each group Workshop to be confirmed, I'll need at least 2 people booked for that date and paid in full.

Or if you prefer some 1 on 1 time, I'm offering a 4-5hr private lesson from either 10am-2pm or 12pm-4pm on the date of your choice (excluding weekends) is $195 all-inclusive.

Payments can be made easily online through a bank Interac e-transfer or a PayPal money transfer, or by cash or cheque in person at the workshop.

To book a workshop, please email me with your 1st and 2nd choice of dates, and I'll reach out to gather more people to fill a date. Or if you'd like to book a small private party of 3 on a specific date, I'm open to that, too.

Feel free to share this post with friends, or contact me to organize your own little group party.

There are many possibilities to choose from for creating an encaustic artwork. One option is painting filtered beeswax over either a photograph of your choice, or a giclee reproduction on fine art paper as I have done here...

The wax has been painted on at about 200-225C. Now it's ready for the heat gun which will melt the wax and fuse it together for a finished look.

Finished! This piece is Indian Summer in Lawrencetown, 8"x8" for $95. Available in my Etsy Shop.

The following images are of some other encaustic paintings I've done using mixed media (shells, sand, scrapbooking paper), pigmented wax, and oil pastels. Other mixed media ideas include fabric, photographs, string, small found objects, mementos, magazine cut-outs, etc...
