Custom Paintings in Retrospect, Part 3: VW Vans

Welcome to the final instalment of my 3-part Custom Painting series.  There is something really nostalgic and fun about VW Vans that just makes people smile and reminisce. My first vehicle was an electric blue 1974 VW Westfalia camper I bought when I was 16 years old. I loved that van, and have often wished it had outwitted the harsh Nova Scotia sea salt air. Maybe it's my obvious adoration for these old machines (they don't make 'em like they used ta, right?), but I think I've become known as the VW bus artist in the area. I love this!! And so I'd like to share with you 3 really special commissions I've done for people to immortalize memories of their beloved vans...

Please check out the first instalments in this series Part 1: Family, and Part 2: Vacations.

If you are interested in commissioning me to capture a special memory for you (I'd be honoured!), please email me at: daina@artbydaina.com for more info.

  1. Love Love these :) The Roadie Companion is new to my eyes:) Do you remember when you got electric blue (Popsicle Pete???)from Manitoulin. and the bery Close Encounter with a moose at dusk (like 2" from the left side mirror!) and dad sitting in the living room putting together a new electric harness for it? You were Beaming Proud :D

  2. Yes, I tell everyone that story! It was Electric Pete, after the Popsicle blue. Poor dad, he tried as gently as possible to talk me out of it, wanting me to be happy but also knowing how much $ it would be to fix, but I was firmly set on that vw camper ;) It would be worth a mint today if I hadn't stored it on salty cape breton island. xo
