Dreams of Paradise

Paradise Dreams, 20"x16", oil on canvas.
Background print with vintage textile block.
By Daina Deblette Scarola, 2009

This is one of my new paintings. It's one of my favourites for so many reasons- it is full of emotion, longing, dreams, but also peace, contentment, and simple beauty.

For those who know me, no explanation is needed.

For those who don't yet, it is about my dreams to experience Hawaii, my desire to become a mom. Though I've yet to visit, I have wanted to since my early 20s. When I think about that tiny place on our Earth, I feel a strong sense that it resonates something special, like an aura that glows with the richness of life, that few places in our modern world evoke. It is a land that is fertile and healthy.  It is a place that calls to me often.  I feel the time will be right very soon...

I know once I arrive, I won't ever want to leave. But the truth is, I love my life, my home, my friends, my family. I love Nova Scotia. I love the sound of the ocean. I love Canada.
